1,500 each

In the classic game each player starts with 1,500. Under the current US rules it is handed out as two 500s, two 100s, two 50s, six 20s, five 10s, five 5s and five 1s. Older printings and other countries' editions use slightly different breakdowns and sometimes different currencies and amounts, so check the rulebook in your box.

The rest of the money

Every other note stays with the bank. The bank pays 200 salary each time a player passes or lands on GO, and under the printed rules it never runs out: if the notes do run out, the banker can issue more by writing amounts on paper.

Is 1,500 the right amount?

It is enough to buy a few properties on the first lap and not much more, which is the point: it forces choices early. Groups that raise starting cash get longer, gentler games; groups that lower it get earlier bankruptcies and a game that turns on trading.

In Kiraya

Kiraya starts every player on ⬡ 1500 with ⬡ 200 for passing Start, the same shape as the classic game. The host can change starting cash in the lobby before the first roll, and nobody has to count notes: the server keeps every balance.
